Let someone you trust hold the key
Updated
The partner password is an optional password chosen by someone you trust, such as a partner, parent or housemate. While a Bedtime lock or Quiet time you protected is on, ending it early needs their password, not just three taps. It's free on every plan, and Scamper keeps only a salted hash of it on your iPhone.
Coming soon to the App Store
How it works
- In Settings, hand your iPhone to someone you trust. They choose a password of at least 6 characters that you don't know.
- You confirm with Face ID or your passcode, so nobody can set it without you.
- Choose what it protects: Bedtime lock, Quiet time, or both.
- While a protected lock is on, End early asks for the password.
What it doesn't do
Locks still end on time on their own, and calls always work. The password never stops your alarm ringing and never replaces your tag: it only guards ending a lock early.
You can't change or remove the password while a protected lock is on.
Wrong guesses
After three wrong tries, Scamper makes you wait 30 seconds, then longer after each miss, up to 15 minutes.
If it can't be read
If the stored password can't be read, for example after moving to a new iPhone, End early falls back to the three steps, so you're never stuck.
Stored safely
Scamper never stores the password itself, only a salted PBKDF2 hash, kept in this iPhone's Keychain. It isn't synced to iCloud or sent anywhere, and we never see it.
The honest bit
You can always take Screen Time access away from Scamper in the iPhone Settings app, which switches every lock off at once, and changing your iPhone's clock can end a lock early. This is a promise to someone you trust, not a cage.
Questions
Is the partner password free?
Yes, on every plan.
What if we forget the password?
Wait for the lock to end: it always ends on time. Once no protected lock is on, you can remove the password in Settings and set a new one.
Does my partner see anything on my phone?
No. The password only guards ending a lock early on your iPhone. Nothing is shared with anyone.
