Quiet time: lock your distracting apps for 15 minutes to 2 hours

Updated

Quiet time is the daytime app blocker inside Scamper, the iPhone alarm for heavy sleepers. Start it from Today, by tapping a quiet tag (an NFC sticker on your desk) or with Siri, and the distracting apps you chose stay locked for 15 minutes to 2 hours. Calls always work, and a quiet tag can never stop an alarm.

Three ways to start it

  • On Today: tap Quiet time and pick a length, from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
  • With a quiet tag: hold your unlocked iPhone near the sticker, then tap the banner.
  • With Siri or Shortcuts: say “Start quiet time in Scamper”.

Quiet tags

A quiet tag is an NFC sticker that starts Quiet time when you tap it: on your desk, by the sofa, wherever the scrolling starts. Scamper writes a link onto it and keeps the length in the app, so you can change it without touching the sticker.

Use a different sticker from your wake-up tags. Scamper keeps the two apart, and a quiet tag can never stop an alarm. Free includes one quiet tag; Plus adds more Plus.

Ending it early

Quiet time ends on its own when the time is up. To stop sooner, tap End early and go through three short steps, or enter your partner's password if you protected Quiet time with one. Started it by accident? Undo it within 10 seconds (unless it's protected).

Which apps it locks

The distracting apps you chose for bedtime, through Apple's Screen Time. Scamper sees private tokens, not app names or your usage.

Next to dedicated app blockers

If blocking apps is all you want, dedicated blockers such as Brick and Foqos go further. Quiet time is the simple version, inside the alarm you already use, and it's free.

Questions

Can a quiet tag stop my alarm?

No. Quiet tags and wake-up tags are kept apart, and only a wake-up tag stops an alarm.

Is Quiet time free?

Yes, on every plan, with one quiet tag. Plus adds more quiet tags.

Can I still make calls during Quiet time?

Yes. Calls always work.

What if someone without Scamper taps my quiet tag?

Their phone opens a page on this website that explains what the sticker is. Nothing starts on their phone.

Mornings, sorted.

Scamper works with any cheap NFC sticker. Free to download when it lands on the App Store.
